During the week, students learned about and practiced public speaking and leadership with parliamentary style debates. Students also learned more about the US election-style of debates and practiced off-the-cuff debating. This is part of our Leadership curriculum. Students then implemented this style of speaking to our CORE KNOWLEDGE curriculum of the elements of a governing body by applying, campaigning and running for office of the LA@M Student Government. Here is a short video compilation of the debates and campaigning speeches.
The entire LA@M 6th grade body then participated in voting for individuals who ran for office. Winning parties have requirements and expectations for the remainder of this semester.
