Each year more than 132,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest. The national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $55,000, with each first-place state winner receiving a minimum of $500 at the national level.
The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. Do you have a student who would like to apply? Please have them read the rules and eligibility requirements and download the entry form at www.vfw.org before submitting their entry to their local VFW Post.
The 2018-19 theme is:
Why I Honor the American Flag
It's about that time...time for summer and catching up on good books!
In order to continue establishing a solid foundation of literacy for your student LA@M students are expected to fulfill the summer reading requirements. A strong foundation in reading helps increase literacy for students in every subject area, prepares students for Core Knowledge standards, and prevents the dreaded "summer slide."
Please see below for the expectations for each grade level!
As we approach Spring time and warmer weather, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of the support you provide your student and our school each and every day. Without you, Muller Road would not be experiencing the successes we see each day.
We would also like to take this opportunity to ask that you continue to support us by being proactive in a few areas.
Thank you so much by helping us ensure our final quarter begins and ends successfully. This has been a wonderful school year thus far, and we are confident that with your continued support all of our students will have a successful fourth quarter.
Today is the start of Muller Road’s second week participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pennies for Patients program. We are so very appreciative of everyone’s support thus far, but we are still $750 away from our goal and WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Pennies for Patients is a 3-week service-learning program that gives students the unique experience of working together to help raise awareness and funds in honor of thousands of children and adults fighting against blood cancers. We are asking that everyone (students, faculty, parents, alumni, etc.) at Muller Road MIddle join in this effort of raising awareness and collecting funds to benefit the mission of LLS: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life for patient and their families.
Help support kids like Tyler. Tyler is a 9 year old and a Leukemia Survivor. He says, “Thank You for the change! Keep collecting money! Cure Leukemia!”
